Having no clue what this "shift" is about you do the wise thing and look into in on your phone. You learn that it causes people to randomly body swap; alternatively if two people are in close contact with each other when it occurs their bodies and minds will merge into one.
As you see it you have 2 options before the shift reaches you, First, you could let yourself get trapped in the body of a total stranger; hopping you don't end up with something too bad. Or Second, you could instead try this "merging" thing and become one with someone else. It sounds like you might no longer be quite yourself, but at least you would have some control over the change.
