You have a good thing going with Lucy and don't want to risk messing it up by accidentally transforming yourself due to the reality alter cascade effect; even though you'd still like to keep her as your sister.
However you still need to get your sister within 5m of someone suitable before you merge her anyhow...
Unless,... the device alters reality to make any changes the new normal, if you swapped yourself with someone else wouldn't that person just start acting like you once inside your body ? If the assumption is correct, then you can shift yourself into the body of someone suitable, walk back over to your home, ring the door bell, ask for your sister and as she reaches the door you shift back into your body and merge the two.
