You spent an entire day coming up with your defense, and you are so confident that you dismiss your lawyer to argue yourself. Before you know it, the moment arrives in court.
“Scarab, your defense?”
“Your honor, the key to proving myself innocent is the definition of intelligence. It comes in two forms: what you know and and the ability to solve problems. Now, I concede that I made Erin know less, but I can conclude that I adhered to her original desire to be smarter according to the second definition I mentioned. May I continue?”
There are many murmurs in the crowd. Erin looks furious.
“You may.”
“May I have Erin to the stand? And may I have Beetle, the grand vizier, assist me?”
“You may.” So it was done, and Erin was at the stand.
“Here is a problem that Erin must solve: You have a boyfriend but you found out he is cheating.Erin, how would you solve this?”
“Um...I would be mad, but not totally mad. I’d probably talk to him about it-or, wait, I don’t think I would because then he would hate me, or maybe, wait. Forget that. I would-no, that’s not a good idea...um...”
“As you can see, Erin’s mind is buzzing with solutions, but she cannot solve the problem easily. Your honor, does the grand vizier have the permission to make Erin dumb again for a moment?”
“Yes.”
Erin becomes the dumb blonde again.
“Erin...you have a boyfriend but you found out he’s cheating. What do you do?”
“Like, I wouldn’t care! He can do whatever he, like, wants to do! I’ll just hook up with other guys, hehe!”
“Change her back.”
She returned to normal.
“She solved the problem! Again, she knows less, but her new stare has the ability to reach solutions easily and wisely. That is a legitimate solution, is it not? It would be as if I made her know a lot about math; she may be great at math, but not English. I conclude that her new state did, in some capacity, make her smarter by definition of understanding and solving a problem! Do not forget that genies always put their own spin on wishes!”
