The man smiles, but he quickly scowls at your mom and swings the pendulum again.
“I liked your hair shorter. You have short hair.”
“I have...short hair?” Your mom asks. You know your mom hates short hair because it makes her look “old and momish.” She’s had her hair the same way since, well, she was your age. You can’t believe what this man is saying!
“You have short hair.”
“I have short hair...” your mom says firmly, her hair retreating to only about her neck while she speaks. Your mom always had short hair since she was a teen, tweaking it only slightly as she aged. You always made fun of her basic “mom cut” but she owned it and she looked good with it. Even though she acted quite young given her age, that was how you knew she wasn’t in her prime.
“It makes you feel like a mother.”
“It makes me feel...ooooh...like a mother,” your mom coos. Your mom never tried to really be some sort of pseudo-young person: she loved the mom life and her hair was always the symbol of that. She may have been not too old, but she acted very mature all the time, so much that you were convinced it was the cut, and perhaps it was.
“You dress very formally.”
“I dress...but I don’t dress formally,” retorts your mom. Your mom loved to go out and have a great time. Sure, she worked as a school teacher, but even there she didn’t dress like a total drag: she had style and she WASN’T a prude.
“Mom, stop repeating whatever he says!”
“You. Dress. Formally. Say it.”
“I dress formally,” your mom admits at last, and you are surprised she took that long. She always loved to be a bit bold, but all in all she kept things formal and low key. Like her outfit now: a blue jacket and matching skirt with pantyhose, but also sporting blue heels and a massive cleavage window. You always admired her mom for always staying formal but also being proud of her still-sexy body. The man clearly is admiring her as well.
“Oh my...I don’t know what is going on, but don’t do anything to my mom!” You say. “How do you know all this about her?”
The man just laughs.
