“Tammy,” begins Natalia. “You’re wealthy.”
Tammy grimaces. “But…but I’m n-not wealthy…” she murmurs in defiance. You told Natalia that the changes require constant affirmation, and though you also said that she could simply make them comply, she said she wanted to observe the unadulterated process of the pendulum’s effects.
“You’re wealthy,” Natalia says once more, appearing increasingly focused. “You are wealthy.”
“Weal…wealthy?” Tammy asks, now sounding genuinely unsure. It’s at this moment that you notice her paintbrush disappear, her appearance tidy up slightly, and your headache return. Reality is beginning to break…
“Yes, you are wealthy.”
“I’m…wealthy…” she finally says, her resistance faltering rapidly. You notice her clothes change; she’s now in an expensive and sensual red sweater top with a tight black skirt and crimson heels. Her hair becomes perfectly straight, she’s now wearing substantial makeup, her house is now not only neat, but…bigger! You can hardly take it all in, as your head begins to really, really hurt!
“You’ve always been wealthy. Your parents are rich.”
“I’ve always…been wealthy…my parents are rich…” she mumbles in agreement, nodding. You feel a tidal wave of new memories sweep across your mind. Ms. Prince one of the most affluent neighbors you had, if not the most. She always was dressed in trendy fashion and was never home in that huge house of hers. A psychiatrist, she never really needed a job since her parents were loaded, but you know just from talking to her on a few occasions that she is a hard worker. And she was a pleasure to talk to.
“Everyone remembers you being wealthy.”
“Everyone remembers me being wealthy…” she says, louder. You have a faint blip of the poor, rambunctious Tammy in your head, but just as quickly as it arrives, it is completely erased. With a clear head now, you know for a fact that Ms. Prince has always been a very wealthy woman. On the walk over to her house, you thought that it would be funny to make her poor with the pendulum, though you felt bad thinking about doing that. You can only wonder what Natalia is going to do to her.
“Well, it seems the pendulum worked,” says Natalia, keeping Ms. Prince in trance.
“Huh? You didn’t make any suggestions,” you tell your mentor, confused.
Natalia smiles. “It really did work!” She exclaims. “I made her wealthy; just a moment ago, she was poor. You not remembering it means the change is complete, I’d assume.”
You too can’t help but grin. Although you remember no changes being made, you obviously take Natalia at her word. How exhilarating!
