You are having some trouble figuring out exactly what changed about your reality.
Maybe the remote changed who you are? But you quickly push that thought aside. You're Rebecca Norton, a kind, outgoing, and studious 13-year-old girl who is a 7th grader at Hamilton Middle School. That's who you've always been.
Maybe your clothes have changed, you think. You look down at yourself. You're wearing your favorite sweater over a plain white shirt, and your hair is brushed over your left shoulder, just how you like it. You smile. You're cute as a button, just like always.
Perhaps the remote affected what you were doing? You look around and notice older your sister Cindy, who is still sleeping in her bed. You wonder why you were in her room in the first place? Then you remember.
You had finished getting ready for school, and were about to meet with your BFF Abby, who you were walking to school with, when you saw Cindy sleeping. She must have stayed up too late last night, again. You roll your eyes. She really needs to take school more seriously or she will have to repeat the eighth grade. You shuddered at that thought. Imagine being in the same class as Cindy. That would be horrible.
As you leave, you ask yourself if reality had even changed in the first place. Then, it clicked. Of course reality hadn't changed, you reason. A remote that could alter reality, that would just be silly! You toss the remote to the side, now completely unaware that it actually worked.
Assured that everything is the same as always, you turn on Cindy's alarm, which she had forgotten to turn on herself. You quickly run out of her room before she could wake up, put on your backpack and head outside to meet Abby, who is outside waiting for you.
"What took so long Becky?" She asks.
"Nothing" you reassure your best friend, "Just had something on my mind"
"Oooooo! Was it a boy? Was it Tommy?" she grinned.
"What noooo!!!! ... Maybe ... You promise not to tell?"
"Don't worry, I promise"
"Pinky promise?"
She groans. "Fine... Pinky promise."
She sticks out her pinky and the two of you make a pinky promise. By now, you have no memory of what happened this morning, much less who you were before.
"So..." Abby says "last one to school is a rotten egg!" She immediately starts running.
"Oh no you don't!" you say as you start running to catch up.
The two of you laugh and run to school, just like any other day.
