Realizing you can't just tell them you're from another world you make up a story that you hope they believe.
You explain to the village elder that you're an orphan from a village. You also say your parents died during a bandit raid when you were younger and that you grew up in the orphanage. Then, you say, you were out exploring some local ruins outside the village with a friend and found a new area that no one knew about. So you decided to take a deeper look in the ruins and found a room with a magic circle and that when you stepped on it you found yourself in an unfamiliar forest.
But also, for some reason after the magic sent you here you couldn't remember certain things like your name or home village.
And then you found this village when that crazy bear of a man, Giles, hauled you in.
