You know your friend Carl has an interest in old legends and magic so you figure that he would be a good source of information on the lamp.
You call him and explain the situation and he shows up at your door as soon as he can asking to see the lamp. As you bring him inside to examine it he asks you if you've tried rubbing the lamp yet, and is clearly excited when you tell him you haven't.
He asks you if he could hold the lamp to inspect it.
