Alex, the daughter of your mother and her first husband, is just one year younger than you. Unlike you (but like the you you can hardly remember anymore), she’s not much of a brainiac but a very attractive, friendly, and popular girl. You two don’t get along too well, since she can’t relate to someone as smart as you at all, but you guys rarely ever have a serious problem with each other.
“Like, what do you want, Bella?” She asks you, playing with her shiny brown hair.
You tightly clutch the pendulum in your hand. “I have something really interesting to show you; do you want to see?”
Alex shrugs.“Sure, I guess so.”
At once, you raise the pendulum to her eye level and start swinging it back and forth. Before she can possibly react, your stepsister is completely entranced, her face blank and her body motionless.
You regret having to impose the trance on her without warning, but you must compromise your integrity to test the pendulum.
