You put your syringe into your pelvis area and extract your DNA while Sydney extracts hers, the scientists say, "That console will combine or in other words transfuse your blood." You and Sydney then proceed to put the syringes into the console, the scientists thank you and administer it into the water supply.
Some time passes, everyone has consumed the water, the infected gain hair on their tentacles and become the gender they were prior to their transformation, those that lost their memories regain them, and you become an inkling male.
Even more time passes, you and Sydney are awarded medals for saving the world, the crowd claps and cheers you both on as you bow.
More time passes... you propose to Sydney and have your wedding, what remains of your families show up for the wedding, and you become husband and wife. You then go to your home aka a renovated shelter, which became a massive city and tourist spot in the passed time.
Some years later you have children and tell them this story of your lives.
The species will live on, and possibly evolve closer to cephalopods and shed their hair.
