"So why do you need me to hide you?" Carl asks. You know you are on the run and didn't want to give away who you are. Carl is a good guy, and while he won't tell the police about you, he might tell somebody who will. You make up a story.

"Um, I'm Nikki. I am friends with [insert your name here], but as you know, he is on the run for stealing goods. Now, the person he stole goods from really hates him and I don't know what he would do to me if he learned I was his friend".

It was a weak story, but you didn't have time to think of one. Carl seems to bit suspicious but he does say he believes you.
